A MAID from Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly stealing $2 400 and R2 000 from her employer.

The court heard that a few hours after she quit her job without giving notice, it was discovered that the money was missing.

Sitheni Sibanda (35) pleaded not guilty to a theft charge when she appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate Mr Abednico Ndebele.

The magistrate remanded Sibanda out of custody to July 28.

Prosecuting, Mr Busani Moyo said on Friday last week at around 8AM, Lungile Sibanda placed $2 400 and R2 000 in a jacket pocket in the wardrobe.

“Complainant went to Nkulumane leaving the keys hanging on the wardrobe door so that the accused could use them to open other doors when cleaning. The accused person packed the clothes where the money was hidden,” said Mr Moyo.

“When the complainant returned at around 3PM, the accused person was outside the yard. She informed complainant that she was quitting her job.

She went inside, packed her clothes and went away.”

Sibanda denied the allegations levelled against her, saying she never saw any money when she was cleaning.

“Your Worship I didn’t take the money neither did I see it. My boss was there all the while when I was packing my clothes. She even searched my bag before I left and waved goodbye. If the money was there she would have seen it,” said Sibanda.
