A MAN from Burombo Flats in Bulawayo allegedly assaulted his 23-year-old wife with a chain, kicked and punched her after accusing her of disrespecting him.

A court heard that Thembelani Siziba (26) was in the habit of turning Ms Nomacebo Moyo into a punching bag. He allegedly assaulted her in June, July and November this year.

Siziba pleaded guilty to three counts of physical abuse before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Sharon Rosemani.

Ms Rosemani told Siziba that he should show the remorse he displayed in court to his wife before remanding him in custody to today for mitigation.

“I hope that the remorse you are attempting to show in this court is the same that you will show to your wife,” she said.

Ms Moyo tried to save her husband amid court proceedings and said that she wished to withdraw the charges for the sake of their children.

However, Ms Rosemani said it was too late to withdraw the case.

Prosecuting, Mr Tawurai Hondoyemoto said on June 30 this year, Siziba went to Ms Moyo’s place to collect his cellphone, but she withheld it demanding money to buy food for their children.

“Siziba became angry and accused Ms Moyo of disrespecting him. He allegedly punched her several times in the face and left,” Mr Hondoyemoto said.

“The next day he went back to Ms Moyo’s residence and forcibly took his cellphone. He punched her again. He allegedly took a chain used to lock the gate and hit her twice on her back.”

Mr Hondoyemoto said last Saturday, Ms Moyo was on her way to her in-laws’ place to inform them that their child was sick and she met Siziba on her way out. Siziba asked her where she was going and before she could answer he allegedly kicked her on the ribs and punched her. — @MondelaC
