Man kills ‘troublemaker,’ tries to burn body Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko

A CHIWUNDURA villager has been arrested for fatally striking a fellow villager with a log before attempting to burn the body following a misunderstanding during beer binge.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday at around 11PM.

“Police in Gweru are investigating a case of murder where a 57 -year- old man died after being struck with a log by a villager who accused him of being a troublemaker.

“On Sunday at around 11PM, Terrence Solomon (26) of Rugare Village, Chief Chiwundura and Samson Mpofu of Dinhira Village, Chief Chiwundura were drinking beer at Gunde business centre, Chiwundura, Gweru,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said during the drinking spree Solomon accused Mpofu of being a troublemaker in the community and a misunderstanding arose.

He said Mpofu left the business centre heading for his home before Solomon followed him while armed with a log.

“Solomon caught up with Mpofu near his field, struck him with the log at the back of the head and he died on the spot. Solomon attempted to burn Mpofu’s body but without any success,” said Insp Mahoko.

On Monday around 5:30 AM, he said, Mpofu’s body was found lying in the field by a passerby who reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Solomon.
