THIERRY HENRY has insisted that if Manchester United are to become successful once again they need Jose Mourinho to take over from Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.
Henry, who often has his say on matters relating to the Premier League, has urged United chief Ed Woodward to get rid of Van Gaal so that the club can return to greatness.
United sit fifth in the Premier League, and are still in the FA Cup following the 3-1 win over Derby County, but the Frenchman believes there’s much more to it than that.
“The club are crying out for success and Mourinho guarantees that, in spite of everything that happened at Chelsea this season,” Henry wrote in his column for The Sun.
Mourinho is currently out of a job after he was sacked as Chelsea manager in December after a disastrous defence of the Premier League title but that doesn’t change his view of the Portuguese.
“If Manchester City get Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone or Jorge Sampaoli go to Chelsea, which is possible this summer, United have to react. They can’t just carry on as they are.
“Some fans want Van Gaal out immediately and they are the people who will ultimately decide his fate.” — Daily Mail
