MANOR Hotel is set to play host to the second Bulawayo amateur open boxing tournament tomorrow.
The bill promises fireworks after a series of successful events that have been held at the venue since the start of the year.
This will be the fourth tournament held in Bulawayo with over 20 bouts lined up for what is expected to be a competitive afternoon.
The tournament will be used to identify boxers for the Region Five Games that will be held in December this year.

Baba vice-chairman Ezwell Ndlovu called on boxing fans to come in numbers to support the pugilists in action.
“All is set for the Baba second boxing tournament, we hope that after hosting successful tournaments before, our fans will continue to show support by coming in numbers,” he said.

Ndlovu said all Bulawayo clubs would be represented while Gwanda has also confirmed participation.
“All Bulawayo clubs will be there as well as pugilists from Gwanda and Gweru.

“We have also sent invites to other provinces and we are hoping for a positive response as this will give them any opportunity to keep their boxers in action since we are the most active province considering the number of events we have held in the city so far,” said Ndlovu.

Boxers from Bulawayo’s clubs Nketa, Nkulumane, Tshaka, Lobengula, Luveve’s Percy, HQ One Brigade, Young Arts and Bulawayo West will battle it out in different weight divisions.

Lobengula have Mandla Toto, Nketa has the Masiyambumbi brothers Samson and Brighton while HQ One Brigade have Casper Mnkandla heading their squad.

Percy Boxing Club will pin their hopes on last year’s Zimbabwe National Youth Games medalists Elizabeth Moyo, Amanda Dube, Thenjiwe Foloma, Brian Ndlovu, Mbongeni Masuku and Stephen Ndlovu with Bulawayo West’s finest boxer being Professor Ndlovu.

Veteran trainer Philip “Striker” Ndlovu of Tshaka is pinning his hopes on Andile Ncube and Ayanda Ncube.
