THE Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two League race has turned into a four-team contest. At the start of the season it looked like the duel would be between ambitious Victoria Falls based outfit Amagagasi FC and Makomo FC, but police outfit ZRP Hwange and Victoria Falls Tigers have roared into the picture with some impressive wins in recent weeks.

Amagagasi, coached by Ndoga Nyoni, remain unbeaten since the start of the season and consolidated their position at the apex with a crucial away victory over stubborn side Moto Moto at the Sports Pavillion last Saturday.

Lungile Nyathi and Godknows Nyathi scored the important goals to leave the team’s organising secretary Nkululeko Ncube confident of glory at the end of the campaign.

“I am very delighted with the way things are going so far though the race is still a long one. We have faith in the players and the coach Ndoga Nyathi, whose possession of a Caf C coaching licence seems to be working wonders for us. We respect every team in the league and we take each game as it comes. So far so good as we remain determined to clinch the league,” he said in a telephone interview.

Second placed Makomo FC, another unbeaten team in the league, kept the fire burning on the same day as they thrashed troubled Brazil 4-1 at Makwika Stadium.

Lloyd Chimuchenga, David Bizabani, Richard Mwalugale and Blessing Paradza each hit the back of the net while the whipping boys scored the consolation goal through Andrew Ncube.

ZRP Hwange, lying third, continued with their fine form when they clobbered Kamandama Celtic 3-1 at Madumabisa Stadium.
Lazarus Mutekesa scored an own goal but goals by Kuridzirai Moyo, Banana Munzabwa and Tendai Mathe ensured maximum points for Tazvivinga Gweme coached policemen.

Not to be outdone, Victoria Falls Tigers, who are fourth due to an inferior goal difference to ZRP Hwange, also maintained the pressure with a morale boosting 2-0 away win over Iwisa.

Stung by the poor form by the team, Iwisa chairman Rangarirai Pedzisai called for an emergency meeting in which he read the riot act to the players and the technical department.

Some changes have since been made within the technical set up, a move which sees former Rufaro Rovers and ZPC Hwange defender Shepherd Magena being moved from the treasurer’s position to be the team’s technical advisor.

Youthful coach Tafi Nengasha remains the head coach.
Baobab Rovers continued with their fall from grace when they lost 2-1 to Classic Luyando at home.

Rovers scored through Tinashe Ncube while Luyando got their goals from Jealous Ndlovu and Naboth Sibanda.
In a Victoria Falls derby, Zambezi Lions edged Corinthians 1-0 with the solitary goal coming from the boot of Wesley Dube.

Ingagula benefited from a 3-0 walkover over Broncos Africa, who according to the league’s chairman Denis Tshuma, will be booted out of the league this weekend if they fail to fulfil their fixture.

Rufaro Rovers have suffered the same fate in the league.
Never Munkuli-coached Hwange Under-17 continued to sing the blues as they lost 2-1 to Blackrock FC at Sports Pavillion.

Bhekumusa Tshabalala and Blessing Njekwa scored for Tichavona Mufandaedza’s boys while John Ndlovu pulled one back for Hwange Juniors.

Fire FC edged Prison Eagles 1-0 at the Prison ground with Stuart Mwanza scoring the all important goal.
