All-Africa Games qualifier against Angola at Rufaro on Sunday.
The two teams drew 1-1 in Dundo, Angola, and Sunday’s encounter will decide their fate as they battle to qualify for the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, from September 3 to 18.
The Mighty Warriors need a win, or a goalless draw, to seal their place at the All-Africa Games.
The team got into camp last Thursday, two days after their return from Angola, and they are geared to finish off their opponents.
Chingawo saved a last minute penalty to ensure Zimbabwe retains a strong chance to qualify and she said the Mighty Warriors are now in a better shape to make it.
“We do not want to defend, we want to score more goals and avoid conceding goals. We now understand how our opponents play and we are prepared for the game.
“Everyone is happy, morale is high. We have been training very hard as a team and I will do my best on Sunday,” said Chingawo.
The goalkeeper has become one of the stars of the team and she said they will not let their fans down.
“We have high chances of qualifying. When we played the Angolans at home, we gave them a hard time.
“It’s only that they were given penalties otherwise we could have beaten them in their backyard,” said Chingawo.
Team coach, Rosemary Mugadza, said her charges would need to shake off complacency.
“Training has gone well so far. We do not have any problems and everything is going according to plan.
“We rested for two days after our return from Angola. This is a new game and different from the one we played in Angola.
“We played a friendly match against SR Miller on Monday and we won 2-1 and it’s a big morale boost for the girls winning against a men’s side,” said Mugadza.
The national team coach is confident her charges, who have improved with each passing game, will finish off the job at home.
“We will use the home advantage and I hope the girls continue from where they left in Angola.
“They played well, especially in the second half and, if we can score in the first 20 minutes, I will be very happy,” said Mugadza.
Zimbabwe’s qualification for the All-Africa Games will be a milestone in the revival and development of women’s football in this country.
The Angolan team is expected to arrive tomorrow ahead of Sunday’s encounter.
Meanwhile, Thornville Marketing Pvt. Ltd will donate bibs and T-shirts to the Mighty Warriors today at Rufaro.
