THE MDC has been hit with a new wave of defections after three officials from Matabeleland South quit the party which is led by Professor Welshman Ncube.

MDC national youth deputy secretary for information Sipho Ndlovu, ward six organising secretary Dumisani Dube and his deputy, Rabson Banda, surrendered their MDC party cards and regalia to the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Abedinico Ncube at the Zanu-PF provincial headquarters in Gwanda Town on Thursday.

They praised the revolutionary party for being there for the people, a quality they said was absent in the MDC.

I was in the MDC for a long time but now I’ve realised that the party has no direction. It’s as good as dead and some of us had lost a sense of belonging. I’ve come to Zanu-PF because we’re all seeing the good fruits of the party and I’m confident I’ll work well for Zanu-PF. Direction is very important that’s why we’re here today, said Ndlovu, who is also the Gwanda Municipality Workers Committee chairperson.

Cde Ncube said the party was growing stronger each day with increased numbers of defectors joining Zanu-PF while some more were still expected to flock to the party.

We’re happy that today you’ve decided to surrender your demons and chose to be born again, he said.

The MDC has been deserted by its chairman, secretary general, information secretary and other senior officials after a dismal showing in the July 2013 general elections.
