ARMY side Moto Moto FC are on the brink of being crowned champions of the Zifa Mat North Division 2A league after they demolished hapless Shumba Stars 4-0 at Sports Pavilion ground at the weekend.

A Shaibar Dimingu brace and goals apiece by Ernest Gwitima and Gift Sibanda left Moto Moto needing one win to hit the finishing line ahead of rivals Hotspurs Leopards and Hwange Reserves.

The soldiers enjoy a three-point lead at the top of the table, with one game in hand.

Moto Moto won the championship last season, but failed to garner sponsorship for the Division One campaign.

However, Moto Moto secretary Peter Mathe yesterday said they were up for the challenge in the First Division this time around.

“We are almost there and this time we are running around behind the scenes so that we compete in Division One. But obviously we would appreciate the support of corporates and individuals in the district as a whole, as this is a community team,” said Mathe.

Leopards kept their faint hopes alive with a hard fought 2-1 win over Trumus Warriors in Dete, thanks to goals from Mandla Nyoni and Godfrey Ruzive.

Warriors hit back through Tongesai Manyande.

Chipangano developmental side Hwange Reserves prevailed 3-0 over Flying Elephants to maintain their slim mathematical chance of eclipsing Moto Moto.

At Lukosi ground, Lukosi Pirates succumbed 0-2 to visiting Baobab Rovers, who scored through Fidelis Mudhoni and 14-year-old sensation Tinashe Mtshiya.

At Chinotimba ground, Corinthians produced a flat performance to lose 2-0 to OT Lions Academy. Jeremiah Kamunda and Albert Zulu were on target.

A thriller at Ngotsheni ground between Iwisa Sparrows and Blackrock ended goalless.

The match between Classic Luyando and Ingagula was postponed.
