THE National Council of Chiefs in conjunction with the Ministry of Legal, Justice and Legal Affairs is conducting a sensitisation training for traditional leaders on marriage and inheritance laws.

Traditional leaders from across the country are part of today’s engagement to educate them on their responsibilities.

The training is being held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo.

Under the new Marriages Act, chiefs are now marriage officers hence the traditional leaders will be educated on their roles while presiding over the solemnisation of marriages.

The chiefs will also be educated on inheritance issues as they are expected to tackle inheritance matters given the country’s legislation.

President of the National Council of Chiefs Chief Mtshane has outlined the objectives of the two-day event.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Mrs Vimbai Nyemba is also part of today’s engagements.

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Permanent Secretary Mr Paul Nyoni is also part of the meeting among other Government officials.

Chiefs are expected to go into sessions that will educate them on the roles in line with constitutional requirements.
