DUB poet and musician, Albert Nyathi and Dendera Kings front man Peter Moyo will get circumcised today in Bulawayo.
The two will be the first to be circumcised using the Pre-pex male circumcision method which will be launched at Lobengula Male Circumcision Clinic.

In an interview, Nyathi, the oldest among the Population Service International (PSI) circumcision ambassadors, confirmed that he would be getting rid of his foreskin today.

“I am flying into Bulawayo tomorrow and will head straight to Lobengula Male Circumcision Clinic to get the whole process done.
“I am a bit nervous though but it’s the right thing to do. I will be circumcised together with my son and my nephew,” he said.

Nyathi’s son Mthabisi is 13 years old and his nephew, Mthokozisi is 14.

Moyo said he could not wait to be circumcised.

“I was introduced to the PSI guys by Jah Prayzah a few weeks ago and I thought I should also get circumcised,” said Moyo.
Nyathi said apart from reducing HIV/Aids, circumcision had a lot of advantages.

“Having been educated on circumcision, I have realised that it’s quite helpful, it is hygienic and it protects one against penile cancer as well as cervical cancer in women,” said Nyathi.

The Senzeni Na? hitmaker said circumcision was part of most cultures but differed in that nowadays it was being done in a professional and hygienic manner.

Nyathi urged all men in the country to get circumcised but was quick to point out that there was a misguided notion that circumcsion protects against HIV/Aids.

“Circumcision does not protect against HIV/Aids, the removal of the foreskin reduces the chances of contracting the disease so people must continue using protection. Being circumcised is not a visa to unprotected sex,” he said empathically.

The launch of the Pre-pex method will be graced by the Mayor of Bulawayo Martin Moyo, several health professionals and performances from poet Ngqindi, Chase Skuza and Iyasa.

Nyathi and Moyo join other PSI celebrity ambassadors like Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Sulumani Chimbetu, DJ Nabster and footballer Hardlife Zvirekwi who have been circumcised.

The celebrities have been hawking the pro-circumcision campaign lines “Pinda MuSmart and I did it, why haven’t you?”

Zimbabwe launched a massive circumcision campaign in 2009 targeting at least 1,2 million men by 2015 in a bid to stem the rise in new HIV infections across the country.

According to PSI, Matabeleland North is said to have recorded the highest numbers of circumcision followed by Matabeleland South. Mashonaland Central is said to have the lowest numbers.
