AN MDC district leader from Goromonzi succumbed to injuries she sustained after clashes that were experienced at a rally that was held at Thornicroft Primary School in Ruwa.

Over 100 MDC youths converged at the school for the party rally meant to garner support for the opposition party when they clashed with youths from the ruling Zanu-PF party.

The district’s youth vice chairperson, Tanaka Samson reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during the clashes, with party sources claiming that the Zanu-PF youths had followed her to her place of residence where they further attacked her.

“We were having our district meeting at Thornicroft Primary School when Zanu-PF youths descended on us, ordering us to end the meeting as it was not sanctioned. This then led to the youths attacking our members with various weapons from knobkerries to machetes.

“Our leaders sensing danger then decided that we disperse before people were injured. However, the Zanu-PF youths followed our vice chairperson Tanaka Samson to her home where they further attacked her. They beat her up severely such that her family members took her to the clinic, that further referred her to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where she was presumed dead on arrival,” said the source who declined to be named.

During the attack, the mob also reportedly attacked and injured Tanaka’s husband Josphat and sister, Patience Samson.

A relative to Samson confirmed the death, saying they were still searching for answers relating to her death.

“We have a lot of questions and very few answers. These people actual just came to her home and beat her up. It is sad because she was not even a violent person and she died such a violent death.

“We are getting no luck from the police who have claimed that there is no proof to warrant an investigation,” said the relative.
