Due to the ongoing lockdown, the awards ceremony slated for February 6 was postponed to February 20 with the hope that lockdown restrictions will have been eased.

The awards that seek to acknowledge and honour the country’s musical excellence and creativity are set to pave the way for arts awards in the country as they will be the first to be held this year.

Zima spokesperson, Benjamin Nyandoro said over 1 235 entries were received for this year’s awards.

He said a new category aligned to the state of affairs worldwide were the Covid-19 pandemic is ravaging, the Covid-19 Awareness Song, received a huge response.

“By close of submissions as at December 31, 2020, our team had received more than 1 235 music submissions across 30 categories. Impressive and surely well deserving of a befitting awards ceremony,” Nyandoro said.

“Of special interest is the buzz around the newly introduced Covid-19 Awareness Song category and response thereof.”

PPC Zima chief executive officer, Reason Sibanda said preparations for the awards ceremony are going on well.

“Preparations are going on well with the nominees reveal set for tomorrow. It will be held virtually with people urged to log onto our Facebook page”.

Interestingly, a lot of underground artistes emerged last year and shook the music scene with their top-notch productions. It will be interesting to see the nominees as it will likely be full of new names.
