A 32-YEAR-OLD man employed as a security guard at a supermarket in Plumtree ran amok, stabbed his father with a knife on the eye and attacked his mother with a shovel for rejecting his girlfriend. Prosecutors say Gregory Chipere attacked his parents and ordered them out of their house in the middle of the night after they refused to accept his girlfriend.

The couple had to be escorted back to their house by police officers as Chipere stood guard at the door on March 9.
“The accused person arrived home with his girlfriend around 9PM and announced that he had invited her to move into his parent’s home. His parents refused and stated that it was against their custom for him to bring a woman without following the correct procedures,” said Medica Tshuma prosecuting.

This, he said, angered Chipere who took a shovel and struck his mother, Hlanganani.
His father, Gumisa Chipere tried to intervene but the accused person stabbed him with a knife on the eye. The pair fled from their house and reported the matter to the police, the court heard

Chipere pleaded not guilty to charges of assault when he appeared before Plumtree magistrate Gideon Ruvetsa and was remanded out of custody to March 24.

Ruvetsa ordered that Chipere  be examined by two doctors to ascertain his mental state in terms of the Mental Health Act before his trial.
