SOCIALITE and humourist, Babongile Sikhonjwa’s boast this week that he bought a second-hand limousine for $30,000 has angered the owner of a Mercedes Benz C230 he crashed in an accident in Bulawayo last year.

The Mercedes Benz belonged to Brighton Kwinje, who claims to be a car dealer. Ever since, the dealer has been on Sikhonjwa’s case stating that he wants $6,000 from him for the wrecked car.

“I’ve been giving him time to raise the cash and trying to be patient with him. However, he’s since last year, been failing to pay for the Benz,” Kwinje said.

He said Sikhonjwa had been promising him various cars to replace the crashed vehicle.

“He’s promised me a lot of things but nothing has come to fruition. At the beginning of the year, Sikhonjwa offered me a BMW G-String as replacement for the car, of which I agreed.

“After months with no action, I started pressuring him. He then said he had a Mercedes Benz ML to replace the wrecked Benz. That’s the one I’m waiting for,” said Kwinje.

He said he was running out of patience and needed his money as a matter of urgency.

“All I want is my money and I think I’ve more than been patient with him,” he fumed.

In October this year, Kwinje said the court granted him a writ to attach Sikhonjwa’s property that amounts to the cost of the car.

“I’ve just been waiting on him to pay up,” said Kwinje. “I’m not sure of the property he owns so that it can be attached and I recover my money.”

Contacted for comment Sikhonjwa said he was frantically trying to repay Kwinje as he is well aware that he owes him.

“Kwinje and I have our deal that we’ve sorted out. I can’t tell you the deal but it involves an ML that I’ll give him as a replacement for the car in question,” said Sikhonjwa.
