THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) will next week hold a four-day strategic workshop that will focus on transforming the sports sector into a multi-million dollar industry in line with the Government’s Vision 2030.

In a communiqué the supreme sports body’s director-general Prince Mupazviriho said the workshop, to be held in Nyanga from November 25-29, will focus mainly on a strategy to “transform the brand value of the sports sector into a multi-million dollar industry capable of contributing towards the national income, economic development and gross domestic product”.

“This is in line with the Government’s vision to make Zimbabwe an upper middle income economy by year 2030,” said Mupazviriho.

A number of key stakeholders drawn from the Government, private sector as well as various national sports associations are expected to be in attendance.

The SRC was created by an Act of Parliament Chapter 25:15 of 1991. The SRC derives its mandate from the Sports and Recreation Commission Act and reports to the Government through the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation.

Part of the mandate of the SRC is to facilitate for the accessibility of sport and recreation programmes to the people of Zimbabwe and to oversee the general running of sport and recreation programmes by the National Sports Associations.
