THE Old Mutual Heath Streak Cricket Academy is being converted into a Trust, Joseph Rego, the academy chief executive officer and executive director has said.

He said the trust would strive for the growth and enhancement of cricket among children in the region.

The announcement follows talks between the academy and the Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane at a welcome dinner that was hosted by Zimbabwe Cricket in honour of the visiting Sri Lanka and West Indies Cricket teams on Thursday last week.

Also present at the meeting was the country’s national cricket coach Heath Streak who is also the Academy’s founder.

During the talks, Rego touched on important issues starting with the major developments undertaken by the Academy to enhance the growth and development of cricket among schools.

He also touched on the South Africa Tour that the Academy’s Under-13 and Under-14 teams would be embarking on following an invitation extended by Gauteng’s renowned Rowlin National Cricket Academy in Boksburg in December.

Rego said the South African tour is aimed at scouting for talent and helping nurture future cricket stars.

“The series initially scheduled between the two countries, South Africa and Zimbabwe has taken a new twist with the participation of a team from India, Mumbai Worli Indians.

The triangular contest between three powerful cricket playing nations will offer children international exposure and the opportunity to showcase their talent and represent their countries at International level.

These little stars are the future of world cricket so it’s important to nurture them,” said Rego.

The Minister commended Rego for his contribution to the development of the sport at grassroots level and providing children with an opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Academy’s two Under-13 teams will tour under the names Masca Heath Streak Academy Zimbabwe and Pepsi Heath Streak Academy Zimbabwe, while the Under-14 team will use the name Fazak Heath Streak Academy Zimbabwe.
