A PLUMTREE High School teacher has been fined $50 for engaging in a bar brawl with a local tout during a drinking spree.

Zibusiso Zidla (24) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to disorderly conduct in a public place by Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philemon, while his co-accused, David Rwatiringa (33), pleaded not guilty.

Zidla was fined $50 or 30 days imprisonment in case of default.

He told the court that Rwatiringa was the one who attacked him first.

However, Rwatiringa also alleged that Zidla was the one who first attacked him.

“I was at Dumms Palace Bar and Restaurant when Rwatiringa just attacked me for a reason best known to him. I only retaliated out of self defence but he is the one who started the brawl. At first I tried to ignore him but he was persistent in the attacks which forced me to respond,’’ said Zidla.

The State applied for a separation of the case and Rwatiringa was remanded in custody to August 16 for trial.

Prosecuting, Mrs Rose Sibanda said on June 26 at around 2AM at Dumms Palace and Restaurant, a misunderstanding arose between Zidla and Rwatiringa and the two men ended up fighting leading to their arrest.
