THREE men from Bulilima District have been arrested for assaulting and robbing a security guard.

Enock Dube (55) and his two nephews Antony Dube (32) as well as Kaizer Hanyane (21) all from Doublevale area in Figtree ganged up against Mr Dalubuhle Dube.

They attacked him with bricks and sticks after he tried to restrain them from assaulting a villager during a drinking spree.

The trio went on to steal his work suit and cellphone all valued at $65 and fled.

They were convicted on their own plea of guilty to assault and theft by Plumtree magistrate, Mr Joshua Mawere. The magistrate sentenced each of them to three months imprisonment which was suspended on condition that they each perform 105 hours of community service at Figtree Police Station.

The trio had initially appeared in court with Zenzo Mlalazi and Andy Dube who were facing the same allegations but the charges against the two were withdrawn after the State failed to find incriminating evidence against them.

Prosecuting, Mr Elisha Mazorodze said the trio attacked Mr Dube on April 30 at around 10PM at Seven Eleven Bottle Store in Figtree. He said Mr Dube is employed at the bottle store as a security guard.

“On 30 April at around 10PM, Mr Dube was on duty at Seven Eleven Bottle Store and Enock, Kaizer and Antony were drinking opaque beer in the same bottle store. A misunderstanding arose between Kaizer and an unidentified patron over an undisclosed matter and Kaizer started assaulting the patron.

“Mr Dube then intervened and restrained Kaizer from assaulting the other patron. When Enock and Zenzo saw this they teamed up and attacked Mr Dube with bricks, sticks and also punched him all over the body,” said Mr Mazorodze.

He said Mr Dube sustained injuries all over the body as a result of the assault. Mr Mazorodze said the trio stole Mr Dube’s work suit and a cell phone which was in the work suit.—@DubeMatutu.
