ZANU-PF candidate for the Tsholotsho North by-election, Professor Jonathan Moyo yesterday handed over $5,000 pledged by Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Sunday for the development of Mbiriya Primary School in the constituency.

Handing over the cash to the school head, Forward Ncube in the presence of the school development committee, teachers and school children, Prof Moyo said the Vice-President responded quickly to the challenges faced by the constituency.

“I’ve been sent to hand over the $5,000 pledged a few days ago by Vice-President Mnangagwa as part of the developments for Mbiriya primary school. Some politicians are known of giving false promises to their constituencies but the VP responded swiftly and fulfilled his promise,” said Prof Moyo

The school head said the money came at an opportune moment and would be used to acquire furniture and textbooks for the school.

“We’re very happy to receive the donation and I think the money will go a long way in easing the shortage of furniture and textbooks at our school. We do also appreciate Professor Moyo’s efforts to invite the two VPs in assisting the people in the constituency and we hope he’ll continue with such gestures,” said Ncube.

On Sunday, the two VPs held a historic star rally at Mbiriya Primary School to drum up support for Professor Moyo who is the Zanu-PF Tsholotsho North candidate in today’s by-election.

Vice-President Mphoko pledged to build a classroom block at the primary school and the plan for the block was handed over to Professor Moyo yesterday.

Villagers who witnessed the handover said they were ready to vote for Professor Moyo.

“We can’t wait for tomorrow’s (today) by-election to vote for uBaba uMoyo.

“He’s one of the leaders who understand our challenges and can improve our lives,” said Josiah Mlingo Sibanda, Mbiriya Village Head.

Nokuthula Ncube of Sibantubanye Village, in Ward 8 said Professor Moyo has been with the constituency through thick and thin. She said she was ready to vote for him so that he could continue developing the constituency.

In today’s by-election, Prof Moyo faces MDC proxies Busani Ncube and Gertrude Sibanda who filed their nomination papers as independent candidates. The two disappeared soon after the nomination court and have never held rallies save for the past two weeks when the MDCs sent some of their legislators to distribute mealie meal to villagers in two wards in a last ditch effort to woo voters.
