TERTIARY institutions are gathered in Victoria Falls for the 4th International Research Conference whose objective is to build a technical and vocational skills base for communities.

Bulawayo Polytechnic is hosting the annual event which is being attended by local universities, technical colleges, and polytechnics, including six international participants.

The theme for the conference is: “Lifelong TVET Solutions for Sustainable Development through Community Engagement.”

In her welcome remarks, Bulawayo Polytechnic Principal Mrs Chiedza Masanganise said their idea is to make sure community members without Ordinary Level passes can also gain lifelong skills in line with the Second Republic’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.

“It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you all to the 4th International Research Conference at Bulawayo Polytechnic. This event stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering lifelong Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) solutions for sustainable development through community engagement,” she said.

Mrs Masanganise said the theme dovetails with the institution’s core values.

She said Bulawayo Polytechnic recognises the pivotal role that TVET plays in shaping sustainable development and that true progress can only be achieved through active engagement with communities.

Mrs Masanganise said the presence of international participants is a reminder of the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange on a global scale.

“In this regard, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development for their unwavering support and guidance. The Ministry’s dedication to advancing TVET initiatives across the nation has been instrumental in driving positive change and empowering individuals to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape.

“By fostering connections with our international counterparts, we open doors to new perspectives, ideas, and opportunities for growth. As we embark on this journey of discovery and innovation I urge each and every one of you to actively participate, engage, and share your expertise. Together, we have the power to drive meaningful change, not only within our own communities but also on a broader scale,” she said.

Mrs Masanganise challenged citizens to take the opportunity to harness the potential of TVET education as a catalyst for sustainable development.

She said through collaborative efforts and a shared vision, the country can build a brighter future for generations to come.

Mrs Masanganise said the Ministry introduced programmes targeting people who do not have Ordinary Level passes to gain skills and all work together to develop Zimbabwe in line with Vision 2030 through the exchange of ideas and collaboration.

The conference’s previous editions have been crucial in building the economy.

The conference started on Thursday and ends today Friday.
