A 33-year-old woman from Mvuma who could not stomach her husband’s alleged promiscuity scalded him with boiling cooking oil resulting in him sustaining burns all over his body.

Tsitsi Tshuma, from Greenvale in Mvuma pounced on her husband, Morgan Moyo as he came out of the shower naked.

A court heard Moyo was hospitalised for 29 days following the attack.

Tshuma pleaded guilty to one count of domestic violence when she appeared before Gweru Magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda.

He sentenced her to 18 months in prison.

In passing sentence, Chibanda said the accused could have solved the dispute without disfiguring her husband.

“What you did is unlawful considering you caused bodily harm to your husband you accuse of promiscuity without concrete evidence,” he said.

Tshuma will however serve an effective ten months imprisonment after eight months were suspended on condition she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years. Prosecuting Edward Gwainda told the court that on November 23, this year at around 5AM at Mujaji Mine in Mvuma, Tshuma’s husband was bathing preparing to go to work.

“He was approached by his wife who was carrying a large black pot in her hand,” said Gwainda.

“She poured the boiling cooking oil which was in the pot on Moyo who was naked.

Tshuma was accusing her husband of having affairs with several women.

The matter was reported to the police by their neighbour, leading to Tshuma’s arrest.
