ZANU-PF is seriously working on addressing the country’s economic challenges following its resounding victory in the 2013 general polls. Dismissing calls by the opposition MDC-T for the Zanu-PF government to step down, party spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo scoffed at the suggestion, saying the government was accelerating the implementation of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) for economic growth. In a statement carried by sections of the private media yesterday, the MDC-T called on the government to quit and make way for an administrative government before thousands of Zimbabweans starve.

Party spokesman Obert Gutu said President Robert Mugabe and his party should step down and make way for ‘capable’ leaders.

But Cde Khaya Moyo said the MDC-T should present its strategy on the country’s development as opposed to meaningless insults on the governing party’s leadership.

He said Zanu PF would continue to consolidate its power base through massive restructuring throughout the country after trouncing the opposition party in the last general elections.

“The article in which the Daily News tells Zanu-PF to quit could only have been written by someone who had downed a few scuds or smoked something illegal. Zanu-PF resoundingly won the July 31, 2013 elections, leaving the MDC staggering in political confusion,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

“The confusion has intensified as evidenced by recent events in Parliament. To Zanu-PF, of great importance is the acceleration of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) through various ministries and other agencies.”

He said the MDC-T had long been forgotten by the people and had nothing to offer.

“We never have time to talk about the MDC, a party long forgotten by the people of Zimbabwe. It’s even more difficult to guess which MDC to talk about as they multiply every month.

“Their tired story and headlines about President Mugabe and the First Lady are nauseating to say the least,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

Recent reports have revealed that the MDC-T has roped in disgruntled former Zanu-PF members in a shadowy committee to organise meetings masked as National Convergence Conventions that will start in May to plan protests meant to destabilise the country.

The opposition party is reportedly courting Zanu-PF members who are accused of working with former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s cabal that was angling to remove President Mugabe unconstitutionally.
