ZANU-PF Bulawayo province said yesterday that it was confident it will raise its target of $50 000 cash towards the hosting of the party’s National People’s Conference to be held in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province this month.

The party’s provincial secretary for finance, Cde Mlungisi Moyo said by yesterday $23 000 had been pledged and was confident the province will raise the $50 000 before the conference which starts on Monday.

Each province has been tasked to raise $50 000, five beasts and five tonnes of maize meal to feed the delegates during the conference which runs from December 10 to 15.

“So far $23 000 has been pledged and we have secured three beasts .We have also mobilised six tonnes of maize meal and we hope by Friday everything will be in place,” said Cde Moyo.

He said measures had been put in place to protect members of the public against unscrupulous individuals who usually dupe people pretending to be fundraising for the party.

“This time around we made a public statement that only letters signed by the chairperson of the fundraising committee and myself are genuine party letters seeking donations,” said Cde Moyo.

He said in the past any party member could use the party letterhead to write to companies and individuals seeking donations and it was therefore difficult to account for such donations.

“We are also working with all the security organs in the party to ensure all donations meant for the party are accounted for,” said Cde Moyo.

The province on Monday held its Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting and endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party Presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
