FIVE Bulawayo groups have made it to the finals of the DreamStar talent search, joining 20 others from across the country. The national finals will be held in Harare on November 5 with the winners set to walk away with $3 000.

Representing Bulawayo will be percussionists Southern Djembe Natives, traditional dancers Sekunjalo MaAfrica, singers Kundai/Bubbles, dancers Super Geeks and singer Jacob Song.

From Kwekwe are Milton (singer), Blessing (singer) and dancers Flame House with Gweru dancers Virus and Masvingo singer Emmanuel.

Competing from Harare are singers Cleopatra, Fusion Five, Noreen/Chido and dancers Lethal Fam and Those Guys.

Traditional dancers Dombodzvuku Primary school and singer Prince from Marondera, beat boxer Tafara and dancers Unit Edge from Mutare with beat boxer/dancer Subzero from Bindura wrap up the list.
Tinashe Kitchen, DreamStar marketing executive said this year’s competition was stiff and judges had a hard time coming up with the 20 final groups.

“The level of competition was very high, higher than we expected. Through our auditions, we were able to find some very talented young people, the cream of the crop,” said Kitchen.

“The crowd’s response to each and every act epitomised the quality and one could tell the judges had a difficult time selecting the best groups to advance to the November 5 finals at Long Cheng Plaza,” said Kitchen.

“That’s what DreamStar is all about, providing platforms for these young, upcoming artistes to be seen and develop them into the stars they can truly become.”

With the motto: “DreamStar, Dream higher and Fight harder”, the competition — a partnership of the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe and Jacaranda Culture & Media Corporations is now in its second edition.
