A BULAWAYO property company has dragged Abundant Life Global Ministries and its senior pastor to court seeking an eviction order over a debt of more than $17,000 in unpaid monthly rentals.

MS Patel and Company (Pvt) Ltd has filed summons at the Bulawayo High Court citing Abundant Life Global Ministries and its pastor only identified as Ukama as the defendant.

The firm wants the church to be evicted from its rented premises between Herbert Chitepo and 6th Avenue in Bulawayo’s central business district.

In papers before the court, the company said Abundant Life Global Ministries failed to pay monthly rentals and council rates which have since accumulated to $17,107,30.

MS Patel and Company through its lawyers, Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers accused the church of breaching the terms of the lease agreement by deliberately failing to pay the money.

“The defendants have failed to pay their monthly obligations for rentals and rates in full accumulating arrears of up to $17,107,30. As a result of the defendant’s breach, plaintiff has a right to cancel the lease and evict the defendants from its premises,” said the firm’s lawyers.

According to the lease agreement, the church was supposed to pay $3,850 monthly rentals.

The company wants Abundant Life Global Ministries to pay damages equivalent to monthly rentals from October 2015, to the date of eviction as well as the legal costs.

The church has not yet filed a notice to enter an appearance to defend the summons.
