Lerato ‘Ngqindi’ Ndlovu

Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Michael Madanha, has called for praise poet Lerato “Ngqindi” Ndlovu to be made a traffic safety ambassador because he is able to communicate the message of traffic safety effectively through his arts form.

The deputy minister was speaking at the launch, in Mpopoma suburb last Thursday, of the Congo Park Traffic training centre for children in Bulawayo,
If all goes well for Ngqindi, he will join the likes of Sandra Ndebele and Jeys Marabini as traffic safety ambassadors.

Deputy Minister Madanha said:

“I think he’s one of the people who can effectively and practically spread the gospel of the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe. So my proposal is to the board chairman and your executive please consider appointing this man your third ambassador. If resources permit, buy him a motorbike so that he spreads the message of traffic safety across Zimbabwe.”

Ngqindi said he felt honoured that he could become a traffic safety ambassador.

“I’ve been given due respect by the minister and I feel honoured that he has suggested that I become a traffic safety ambassador. I’m waiting for the letter from the Traffic Safety board so that it becomes official.

“If I’m given the responsibility I’ll work very hard to raise awareness on road safety in Zimbabwe. I want to do my part to decrease road carnage in the country,” said Ngqindi.

The Gwanda-based poet believes that Deputy Minister Madanha was impressed by his performance at the hand over to Government of 162 kilometres of a fence erected either side of the Bulawayo-Gweru Highway last Wednesday.
