A MAN from Gweru has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a TV Sales and Home shop through a ventilator on the roof and stealing 14 cell phones, three tablets and two laptops worth more than $4,000. Tinashe Masocha, 23, was arrested last Friday, 12 days after the break-in.

He appeared before Gweru Magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda facing two counts of unlawful entry and theft on Tuesday.

Masocha pleaded guilty to both counts and was remanded in custody to today for sentence.

Prosecuting, Lloyd Mavhisa told the court that on April 16 at around 11PM, Masocha took advantage of an open ventilation space window on the roof and gained entry into the shop.

“On April 29, police detectives in Kwekwe received information that Masocha was selling brand new cell phones, leading to his arrest.”

The court heard that under interrogation, Masocha revealed that he had stolen the cell phones at TV Sales and Home Gweru Main Branch.

“The next day, TV Sales and Home Gweru branch manager, Shupikai Vhokoto, positively identified the recovered property as that stolen from the shop through barcodes,” said Mavhisa.

The court heard that of the $4,677 worth of property stolen, property valued at $3,526 was recovered.
