PANDEMONIUM continues within the MDC-T with the party recalling fired deputy president Dr Thokozani Khupe from Parliament.

Dr Khupe’s faction has immediately hit back saying the expulsion was a non-event because Advocate Nelson Chamisa was not the party’s president, among other reasons.

MDC-T divisions have escalated since the death of the party’s founding president Mr Morgan Tsvangirai in February with Dr Khupe and her allies, national organising secretary Mr Abednego Bhebhe and national spokesperson, Obert Gutu, being expelled from the party last month.

Prior to the trio’s expulsion, Dr Khupe had announced that her camp was disassociating itself from Adv Chamisa’s camp accusing it of being violent and failing to follow the party’s constitution.

Her other loyalists have also been purged from the party.

Yesterday, Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda announced in the National Assembly that the MDC-T had recalled Dr Khupe.

“I have received notice from the MDC-T party that Honourable Thokozani Khupe has ceased to be a member of that party therefore she ceases to represent the party in Parliament,” said Mudenda.

“Therefore, a vacancy has arisen for the Bulawayo Metropolitan Proportional representation seat. The House will make the necessary arrangements to inform the President and Zec (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.”

Dr Khupe had served as the leader of the opposition in Parliament in the last 10 years.

In expelling the trio last month, MDC-T revealed that it had set in motion plans to recall Dr Khupe and Mr Bhebhe from Parliament.

MDC-T acting spokesperson, Ms Thabitha Khumalo, yesterday said the party was just following the law in expelling Dr Khupe.

“The constitution is very clear that when an individual ceases to be a member of a political party she stops representing it in Parliament. So Khupe has ceased being an MDC-T member that’s why we have recalled her,” said Ms Khumalo.

However, Dr Khupe’s camp was yesterday defiant saying Parliament had jumped the gun in expelling Dr Khupe as the matter regarding MDC-T name was before the courts.

Mr Gutu said their camp had assigned Professor Lovemore Madhuku to challenge Dr Khupe’s expulsion from Parliament.

“Professor Lovemore Madhuku has been instructed to launch an urgent chamber application seeking an order setting aside Hon Dr Thokozani Khupe’s recall from Parliament. Watch the space,” twitted Mr Gutu.

Contacted to clarify his position, Mr Gutu said: “The issue of who is the real MDC-T is pending in the courts. We’re convinced that Parliament jumped the gun, just wait until papers are filed.”

Dr Khupe’s spokesperson, Mr Witness Dube, described her expulsion from Parliament “as a malicious act of interfering in the internal matters of a political party considering that she had long written to Parliament notifying them of a leadership crisis in the MDC-T.”

He said legal processes have been initiated.- @nqotshili

If it’s true that she is hiring one of the aspiring presidential candidates (as her attorney from another) to file a court application to set aside the recall, I guess that candidate needs not to worry about campaign funds, this trick might solve that problem.

Where will Khupe get the money from? When in actual effect she also did not get a share of $1.8 million given to Mdc Chamisa. Khupe is ill advised. Not even a single expelled member of parliament has been readmitted in Zimbabwean parliament since independence. Also as an expelled Mdc member Khupe has no grounds of taking Mdc to court because they are free not to associate with anyone they don’t wish to according to the country’s constitution. Khupe is buried and finished.

Should we buy our 10-year-old daughter a smartphone?

        • Chabvongodza

          Probably that is best.

Khupe is a sellout who chose to stand with that moron of a tribalist that Morgan Tsvangirai was. This modern day Enos Nkala deserves no sympathy now when she gets the same treatment from the same tribalists she chose to defend. umvuzo wokuba nguthathekile maKhupe, hamba uyegeza idimoni lika Nkala.

The lady maKhupe was badly misled by one Obert Gutu, who seemed to suggest to her that he knows it all! His tone was always boisterous and arrogant too. Am also of the opinion that Gutu did this either deliberately or otherwise. How on earth could maKhupe not see this coming? First her faction lost Bulawayo offices and also the money was paid to the other side. She should have seen this coming! She was also talking about joining forces with Mrs Mujuru and her Rainbow coalition. What still remains a mystery is what was she doing in Cape Town with the likes of Mwonzora,Mudzuri and co together with Mujuru? She declared herself the president and anyone joining her has to fight for other positions. Politics!! Lastly Ms Khupe should just find another name for her party otherwise this will just be another embarrassment. In 2005 she benefited when Prof Welshman Ncube and co. left the party. . She never talked about the constitution then ,including Mr Know It All Gutu!

Its a bad season for the doctors:
Dr Mzembi, Dr Dokora, Dr Undenge and Dr Chimedza were recalled by Zanupf…
Now Dr Khupe has been recalled by MdcT.
If you are a doctor and still not recalled, praise the Creator

My forum days remind me that courts go by the constitution

    • Zvobgo

A precedent was set in the Bennett’s case showing us that courts recuse themselves isasfaras parliamentary issues are concerned

If you are recalled from Parliament in Zimbabwe either as a ZANU PF MP or MDC one, that’s the END of it.No one has challenged the recall and got readmission. Gutu you are ill advising Khupe. That’s not good at all.Her political career is now buried. Ask Munyaradzi Gwisai,Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube. All these are seasoned lawyers who were once recalled from Parliament and never bothered to challenge it in court even litigation is their job, because they knew the result. Also they become political nonentities after the recall. Khupe also be careful with this guy called Witness Dube acting as your spokesman. I think he is getting it all wrong with Obert Gutu.Remember Gutu is no longer interested in politics and is going to study for his PhD at an ivy league university soon, therefore he needs to destroy Khupe and friends before leaving!kkkk.Be smart Khupe. There is no sympathy or mercy in the vocabulary of politics!

shame on Khuphe and this Gutu thing, i wonder how people become doctors when they are failing to reason

I just don’t understand why Mam’Khupe, as MDC’s sole legitimate leader according to its undoctored constitution, has not recalled Nelson from Parliament or even expelled him from the party. Why all this dithering, Mam’Khupe? You have to be proactive, ma’am-you have too many little cobras (venomous little wamba dia mambas, kkkkk) in your room!!

  • Sikhulu

I think for Thokozani she has reached the maximum hieghts and it’s now the time to retire in peace. If she tries to keep pushing, she will humiliate herself a big time. Nobody except her immediate relatives can vote for her.

  • lizzy

The mdc t and mdc alliance are groupings of seasoned lawyers MaKhuphe. They probably know what they are doing and are miles ahead of you in scenario planning.I suggest you don’t waste your money on lawyers to challenge them .Form your own party since you seem to believe that you have strong support.Ungalalela oDube labo Bhebhe who probably have no legal training uzatshayana lezihlahla mtakamama.

  • moyo siphe

For a long tgime people told Khupe to file a court application annulling the appoinment of Chamisa as head of MDC-T, she kept quiet until now.

To me, u Thoko is just one of those typical Mthwakazi idiots; same WhatsApp Group with abo Enos Nkala, Obert Mpofu, John Nkomo, Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu, Callistus Ndlovu, Mark Dube, o Langa, o Cain Mathe and many such rubbish.

These are idiots who don’t have the interests of Mthwakazi provinces at heart, but simply use their Mthwakazi provinces background as springboards for self-enrichment; and this why most of them, especially those from ZANU PF always weep more than the bereaved in criticizing the people of their provinces. Liyizibhanxa, iziphukuphuku!

Khuphe has no right whatsoever to argue about the Constitution, now that it
suits her, yet she failed to support a fellow Mthwakazi Welshman Ncube in 2005 when the party split over Morgan Tswangirayi’s “I am the MDC” one-man show of going against the majority National Council vote on the party’s
participation in the Senate elections. More so when one considers that, despite the principled stance taken by the Ncube crowd, the split took a tribal tone with many of the party’s Shona membership saying “Mandevere awandisa!”

To Thokozani Khuphe, this meant nothing to her; yet she is supposed to
represent her Matebeleland constituency. If you can’t stand for your
Constituency, then why are you there in the first place?

The answer is simple – it was because she was eyeing the party Vice President post which became vacant after the departure of Gibson Sibanda, in solidarity with Ncube and others who were against Tswangirayi’s undemocratic practices.

Since then, she continued to look the other way each time Tswangirayi rod rough shod over the party Constitution.

She only started making noise about Tswangirayi’s unconstitutional practices
when he appointed two more Vice Presidents, clearly only because she felt
threatened in that her chances of succeeding Tswangirayi as Party President
were no longer guaranteed, as if this was ever so, given the well known
tribally toxic nature of Zimbabwe’s politics. It was only after this
development and for the first time she started talking about the violation of
the party Constitution; then again, as if was the first time it had been
      violated.

As far as I am concerned she should shut up, because this is the way things are done in the MDC-T, when circumstances change – the Constitution is not cast in stone. Khuphe, like the other stupid Matebeleland stooges in ZANU PF are the Mpimpis who whenever differences arise, they are always prepared to fight their own people with a heavy hand far more than they fight those from outside the Matebeleland provinces, in order to please the other side for crumbs – this is why she has always been more noisy about Welshman than against anyone else.

Today, those same people she has been trying to please since the 2005 split
have now kicked her in the teeth and she should go hang.

Uzowukhomb’ umuz’ onotshwala. Hambo fela kude wena mpimpi. Sikhathele ngani -
      kunini sinixelela nina bantu? Kanizwa!!
