1 killed, 4 injured in accident accident

ONE person died while four others were injured in two separate accidents that happened near Victoria Falls.
Two people escaped unscathed from one of the accidents.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the accidents, but could not give details of the deceased as next of kin had not been informed.

The first accident occurred when Ms Ester Gwekwerere (30) who was driving a Honda CRV towards Hwange tried to overtake a vehicle which was turning right driven by Mr Freedom Moyo (31).

Mr Moyo had one person on board and both were not injured, while Ms Gwekwerere was alone and complained of internal injuries following the accident.

“On 17 October at 4pm a serious road traffic accident occurred at the 430km peg along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road. The second party (Mr Moyo) was turning right and was hit by second party (Ms Gwekwerere) who was overtaking. The first party vehicle veered off the road and hit a pole and stopped while Mr Moyo’s vehicle remained stationary,” said Insp Banda.

Ms Gwekwerere sustained no visible injuries, but complained of back pains.

She was rushed to Victoria Falls Hospital where she was admitted and her condition was stable.

Both vehicles were damaged.

The other accident occurred when a vehicle driven by Mr Talent Chihwayi veered off the road near Ko Panashe and it is suspected that he was speeding.

There were three passengers on board namely his brother Mr Simba Chihwayi, Mr Courage Matawu and the deceased, a woman from Victoria Falls.

The three were rushed to Victoria Falls Hospital with varying degrees of injuries, while the deceased’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary. — @ncubeleon
