ACROSS the Limpopo River lies the Limpopo province of South Africa which by far has made known, the Bolobedu (Bolo) House Music genre through hit-makers, Master KG, Makhadzi, Benza Prince and King Monada.

The genre largely sung in Venda has now found a new home in Beitbridge where the town’s artistes are using it as an opportunity to break barriers.

Local singers who have taken up the task and are fusing the genre with Amapiano, another popular genre in South Africa, include the duo of #Ligwena Music band which comprises musician Christen Mirror and Defeat The Vocalist. The likes of Bhadilah and Chacksman are also riding on the genre with the latter fusing it with gospel.

#Ligwena Music band that was formed last year has already released a number of singles that include Madikitani Piano Hub, Phenyadzinwe, Farani Muthu, Vho Tshinakaho and Ngomalungundu Piano Hub featuring Lee Knocks. Behind these productions is Beitbridge fast-rising producer Mark Geezo who works from Geezyan Music studio.

Chronicle Showbiz recently caught up with the #Ligwena Music’s Defeat The Vocalist (real name Nqobile Tshuma) and Christen Mirror (Emmanuel Ndlovu) who said they want to popularise the Tshivenda language.

They said their vision is to change the face of Beitbridge entertainment.

“Bolo House Music is a favourite among many here hence we decided to infuse it with Amapiano in order to appeal to more people,” said songstress Defeat The Vocalist.

She said she ventured into music last October.

“My vision is to grow my brand, something that I want to achieve through staging live shows when the lockdown restrictions are eased,” said Defeat The Vocalist.

Christen Mirror said by riding onto a fast-rising genre, they want to put Beitbridge on the spotlight.

He said they were working on the music video of Ngomalungundu Piano Hub which they hope to release next month. – @mthabisi_mthire
