Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge
THOUSANDS of people including Zimbabweans, Ethiopians, Indians and businessmen from South Africa have blocked the Beitbridge border post in protest of the implementation of statutory instrument number 64 of 2016.

The protesters who marched Friday morning for 12 km from Musina town were barred from entering the South African component of the border by police in that country. It is understood they wanted to walk through to the Zimbabwean side of the border.

The statutory instruments tightens screws on the import of basic commodities including food items, building material, furniture, toiletries and cooking oil among other things.

Commercial cargo is also stuck on the South African component of the border as importers are struggling to get import permits from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Meanwhile the situation is normal at Plumtree border post between Zimbabwe and Botswana (Updated).
