A MDC youth leader based in Chegutu has claimed she was raped after a freak accident that occurred while she was on her way to visit a fellow activist at Chikurubi maximum prison.

Blessing Nyamunomba who entered politics following on the footsteps of her parents was involved in a freak accident together with her brother Nickson Nyamunomba and an unnamed lawyer while on their way to visit another MDC activist, Mr Smart Dube.

According to family sources Blessing discovered she was raped after she regained consciousness in hospital.

“Blessing and Nickson had gone to see Smart Dube in Chikurubi when, according to Blessing they spotted two trucks following them loaded with people wearing regalia of the ruling Zanu-PF party. She says one of the trucks then overtook them and all she remembers was it then crushed on them before she lost consciousness.

“She was eventually picked up by some good Samaritans while she was unconscious on the side of the road, when she got eventually regained consciousness tests revealed that she was actually raped during that freak accident,” said the family source.

The source further revealed that this is not the first time that Blessing has been targeted.

“What is sad is that this is not the first time the family has been subjected to such treatment, some time back their house was raided after opposition campaign materials like flyers and t-shirts were delivered to their house and they were raided by people who purported to be police officers who had received a tip off that they were drugs and weapons in the house.

“On the day in question they beat up both Nickson and Blessing while the rest of the family hid, they then took them in their vehicle saying they were under arrest but later dumped them. Blessing’s husband, Tanaka Masvusvu and the siblings tried to report the matter, but again, they got no assistance at all,” said the family source.
