A weekend full of goals and intrigues but what did we learn from the latest round of the Barclays Premier League? Here’s five of the best. 1. Harry Kane is not a “one season wonder”. The Tottenham and England striker started the season slowly and it seemed nothing was going right for him. Struggled to score goals and missed a few one on one situations.

It seemed like he was going to struggle this season following the heroics of the previous.

Two fabulously taken goals against West Ham on Sunday brought his tally to 8 in 13 PL games. Fantastic. The thing also is that he has not changed how he plays all season and can still be found deep inside his own area, foraging in wide positions as Spurs build up attacks. We can safely conclude now that in this league he is the real deal injury permitting.

2. Finally, the fears of most Arsenal fans have come to pass. Francis Coquelin had become the vital, some say final, link in the Gunners’ midfield with his ball winning all action style.

He went off injured in the first half of the defeat at the Hawthorns and initial reports say he could be out for months. The fear of Arsenal fans is mainly because there seems to be no proper like for like replacement for the young French man.

Club captain Mikel Arteta did come in for him but scored the own goal winner but went off injured too. So it seems the experienced Mathieu Flamini will get to hold the forte.

3. Manuel Pellegrini keeps doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results. Manchester City always seem to suffer against very good opponents when the big Ivorian Yaya Toure starts in a central midfield duo.

So it proved again this weekend as he did start alongside Fernando. Liverpool’s impressive collection of twinkle toed ball manipulators proceeded to destroy City at the Etihad Stadium. Time and time again the trio of Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firminho just ran rings around City. Anyone who had watched Liverpool’s beating of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge should have been wary that they will be attempting the same style at City. It seems only Pellegrini thought they won’t be able to.

4. Leicester City are top of the table and deservedly so. Jamie Vardy their striker is the league’s top scorer too. Great credit to manager Claudio Ranieri for arriving at the club and choosing to work with the players he met.

A far cry from what we have seen at most clubs with new managers demanding blank cheque book to work with. How long will Leicester stay there? Who knows? Their fans don’t care.

They are enjoying the ride at the moment. Their clinical destruction of Newcastle United at the weekend underlined the supreme confidence they are playing with. They confront Manchester United next weekend and have nothing to fear.

Last season it seemed like Vardy was just one of those typical journey man English talent not short of effort and industry. However this season he still has those qualities but has added consistency to his goal scoring. To score in 10 consecutive premier league games is nor to be sniffed at making his England caps absolutely deserved.

5. David de Gea is just an incredibly talented goalkeeper. The young Spaniard seemed to be on his way out of Old Trafford in the summer, boy, United must be glad he stayed.

The save he made at Vicarage Road on Saturday to deny the home midfielder Abdi was just top, top drawer. Inside a crowded box the shot came through bodies and was deflected by his captain Chris Smalling but somehow De Gea went down to his right to palm the ball away.

That save ensured the depleted visitors left with the 3 points at the end.— Supersport
