Government completes payments to farmers for grain GMB chief executive officer Dr Edson Badarai

THE Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has revealed that all payments for summer intake have been completed with a total of $68,6 billion obligation and a United States dollar component of US$2,5 million, having been paid.

In a statement today, GMB chief executive officer Dr Edson Badarai reiterated the parastatal’s commitment to play its role in national food security, especially in ensuring that farmers are paid on time.

He also said the payments for the winter wheat intake have also commenced with $5,9 billion disbursed so far.

“The Grain Marketing Board wishes to advise our valued farmers and stakeholders that all payments for summer intake have been completed. A total of $68, billion has been paid, completing the ZWL obligations to farmers for the summer intake,” he said.

“On the USD component, the payments have largely been made to serve for US$2,8 million which should be liquidated within no time.”

Dr Badarai apologised for delayed payments to farmers.

“The Grain Marketing Board would want to apologise for delayed payments to our forever resilient and committed farmers who are spearheading the agricultural reform that has seen Zimbabwe attaining food self-sufficiency as envisioned by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and championed by our Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Dr Anxious Jongwe Masuka,” said Dr Badarai.
