An elderly Beitbridge woman who accused her grandson of failing to look after his own son, recently dragged him to court demanding $156 monthly maintenance. Hazel Tshuma was accusing her grandson Tafara Muphune of  failing to fend for his own son.Muphune however disputed that Tshuma was his grandmother. He told magistrate Victor Mpofu that Tshuma was infact his grandmother’s young sister and therefore had no right to claim maintenance from him.

“This woman is not even my grandmother, she is my grandmother’s young sister. Who gave her the right to come here and claim money for my son’s upkeep?” he asked.
Muphune who claimed he was earning $260, said he was able to take care of his son.

He said he only asked Tshuma to look after his child after the boy’s mother got married to another man. Mpofu ordered Muphune to pay $60 with effect from this month until he takes custody of his son.
