Man killed in gang attack Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele

FIVE gold planners allegedly ganged up on a man and beat him to death over an undisclosed matter.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred on Monday at around 8PM at Khanda Mine, Ntabende area in Esigodini.

He said Favourite Moyo (39) was working with Phineas Gama at the mine when they had a minor altercation but immediately resolved the matter.

Chief Insp Ndebele said Gama later teamed up with four friends and they attacked Moyo leading to his death.

“I can confirm that we recorded a murder case which occurred at Khanda Mine in Esigodini. The now deceased Favourite Moyo was working at the mine with Phineas Gama when they had a misunderstanding. Moyo punched Gama on the chest and went on to apologise for his actions and they resolved the matter.

“Gama later returned with his four friends who were armed with logs and knobkerries and they attacked Moyo over the altercation. Moyo sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Esigodini District Hospital where he died upon admission,” he said.

Chief Insp Ndebele said investigations were underway and so far two of the suspects Joseph Phiri (23) and Phumulani Ncube (25) had been arrested.

He said the three other suspects Gama, Ishmael Ncube and Peace Ncube whose ages were not known were still at large. He appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to alert the police.

Chief Insp Ndebele urged members of the public to desist from engaging in violence when faced with disputes. He said lives continued to be lost over petty issues. — @DubeMatutu
