NORMALCY has returned to the Roman Catholic-run Mukaro High School in Gutu after it was reopened on Monday following its closure two weeks ago.

Roman Catholic Masvingo diocese Vicar General Father Walter Nyatsanza ordered the school to close citing the refusal by two teachers to transfer over allegations that they incited pupils to go on strike in 2012.

The Vicar General had claimed that the situation remained tense at the school due to the presence of the two teachers.

Last Thursday, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora, ordered the school to reopen with immediate effect and lessons resumed on Monday.

School head Aquainos Mazhunga yesterday said all pupils had returned to school and lessons have resumed with the two teachers accused of inciting pupils still teaching at the school.

“The situation is back to normal and pupils are attending lessons as we speak. We also have the two teachers doing their normal duties. For more details phone Vicar General Fr Nyatsanza,” said Mazhunga.

Fr Nyatsanza could not be immediately reached for comment.

Masvingo Provincial Education Director (PED) Zadius Chitiga said the school has complied with the Ministry’s order and all was well so far.

“It’s on record, Minister Dokora has resolved the issue at Mukaro High. As far as I’m concerned there’s now peace and pupils are learning, which is our main objective. So far so good, we haven’t received any bad report,” said Chitiga.
