FORMER Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League champions Railstars have started recruiting players for next season, a week after losing the title to Archers.

The railmen, who won the championship in 2015, failed to defend their crown against Archers, who set a record by winning all their games.
Charles Widzisa, the Railstars’ captain, said his team, which faces Imbizo Barracks in tonight’s game, have brought on board Zimbabwe School of Mines’ Simba Negavi as part of their efforts to strengthen the side.

“This has been a tricky season for us. We’ve already started beefing up the squad because we want to reclaim the title.

“We’ve brought in Negavi to create competition within our squad.

“We’re also hoping to retain all our players so that we have a formidable side that will challenge for honours next season,” said Widzisa.

Archers were the only team to beat Railstars home and away this season and Widzisa expects his side to have an easy stroll over Imbizo today.
Railstars clobbered Imbizo 35-4 in the first round.

“What we want is to end the season strongly and show people that we will be back with a bang. We’re going to Imbizo with high hopes of completing a double.

“My players are all eager to end the season on a high note. Even though we know we’re going to win, we expect some challenge from Imbizo, who have improved and are eighth compared to their maiden season last year when they finished 15th.”

Focus on tonight’s game will be on the quartet of captain Sylvester Mudekwa, Patrick Zimidzi, Ndabezinhle Ngwenya and Mgcini Nkala, who helped Railstars win the 2015 league title.
