A 36-YEAR-OLD Kwekwe man was sentenced to 30 years in jail for raping his 10- year-old stepdaughter on two occasions. The man from Sink Park in Redcliff was convicted on his own plea by Gokwe-Kwekwe regional Magistrate Amos Mbobo. Prosecuting, Robert Ndlala told the court that sometime in October 2014, the man was left in custody of the girl after her mother went to a funeral in Chegutu.

He then went to where the girl was sleeping and woke her up before raping her once. Ndlala said after the act, the man threatened the girl with a knife and told her not to tell anyone.

On the second count, in November 2014, he again took advantage of his wife’s absence and raped the girl. The court heard that the girl reported the rape to her mother but she did not take action. The matter came to light in January last year when the girl visited her grandmother who noticed she had scars and sores on her privates .

When asked what happened, the girl opened up and narrated her ordeal.
