AN umalayitsha has been arrested after he allegedly lost control of a vehicle he was driving along the Bulawayo- Beitbridge Road on his way to South Africa resulting in the death of a passenger.

Bhekizitha Ndlovu (30) of Mankala Village in Matobo will appear at the Gwanda Magistrate’s Court on January 17.

According to State papers, Ndlovu who plies the Johannesburg- Matobo route was driving a Ford Bantam pick-up vehicle along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road headed for South Africa when he lost control of the vehicle resulting in the death of Nonsikelelo Ndlovu (18).

“On 3 August at around 8PM Ndlovu was driving a Ford Bantam pick up with eight passengers on board.

Upon reaching the 187 kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road, Ndlovu lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road to the right,  overturned and rolled several times. It threw seven of the occupants including the driver outside before landing on its roof,” read the papers.

The State further stated that Nonsikelelo Ndlovu died on the spot as a result of the accident while four others were injured.

The matter was reported to Gwanda Traffic Police who attended the scene.

The particulars of negligence against Ndlovu are travelling at an excessive speed and failure to reduce speed, stop and exercise caution or act reasonably when an accident seemed imminent. @DubeMatutu
