Zanu-PF has launched a Party Ideological College aimed at raising political and ideological consciousness while fostering unity within its structures and membership.
The college was launched this week at the Zanu-PF headquarters during a one-day workshop on the implementation of the resolutions passed at the party’s 11th Annual People’s Conference held in Mutare last year. Speaking at the launch, attended by Politburo members and directors of the party’s departments, Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the college, also known as the “Party Political College Without Walls” would help overcome some challenges faced by the party.
“Solving the age old problems such as factionalism and corruption cannot be achieved by legal means only but a concerted effort to change people’s attitude, beliefs and behaviour.
“Only in-depth political education can eradicate deep-seated attitudes and beliefs. In light of this, I am happy as party national chairman to officially launch the Party Political College Without Walls which we believe will raise the level of political and ideological consciousness of the entire membership of the party, thus help reduce these divisive trends.”
He said political education united people, making them work as one family. The political college will provide lectures such as the “Characteristics of a Revolutionary Leader”, among others that will run for the course of the year.
Cde Khaya Moyo revealed that he would also lead a campaign to educate party members to focus on the common enemy of imperialism rather than differences in language, culture and traditions among them.
“We are all comrades-in-arms in a common struggle against one enemy — imperialism. Our energy must therefore be directed at defeating the British and their Western allies and not furthering the narrow interests of the different factions that now exist within the party,” he said.
The Zanu-PF national chairman said that the Anti-Sanctions Campaign, which should see more than two million signatures being appended to the petition calling on the removal of the illegal western sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe, would be launched by President Mugabe soon.
The plan for the campaign has already been presented to the Politburo with Vice President and Second Secretary John Nkomo having unveiled the awareness programme in Masvingo in January.
