ZANU-PF Matabeleland North Province intends to establish about 6 000 cells before the end of next month as the revolutionary party starts preparing for next year’s elections.

Addressing party supporters at a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) at the Zanu-PF provincial offices in Lupane on Saturday, Zanu-PF Matabeleland North chairman Cde Richard Moyo challenged all districts to set up cells before the end of next month.

“This year the party is focusing on cells and the process of establishing them has started countrywide. We have been given a deadline up to end of March when the information is wanted in Harare,” said Cde Moyo.

A cell is the smallest structure in Zanu-PF and is made up of 50 members.

“As Matabeleland North Province we are targeting about 6 000 cells for us to be sure of winning elections. Once we make those cells we know we are assured of votes. Let’s all go back to our districts and start establishing cells,” said Cde Moyo.

Reports from respective districts showed that so far Tsholotsho is leading in the province with 69 cells followed by Umguza with 59.

Nkayi and Binga districts have established 23 and 11 cells while Bubi, Hwange and Lupane have each not yet started the process.

Cde Moyo said the situation was worrying considering that the party deadline to set up cells was fast approaching.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF has set itself a June target to ensure that all its members have electronic membership cards.

This was revealed by Matabeleland North provincial treasurer Cde Stars Mathe.

She said the electronic cards were being manufactured by a South African company.

“We went to a workshop in Harare and we were told that the party is now giving out electronic cards. All members are expected to get theirs by mid-year,” Cde Mathe said.
