THE Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has officially opened its first office in Gweru.

After Mutare and Bulawayo, the office becomes the third decentralised facility from Harare.

The move aims to provide better access to services such as consumer education, awareness, and complaints handling, ensuring swift resolution and regulation of energy supply issues.

During the office’s official opening ceremony, the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon Owen Ncube, commended Zera for setting up an Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging port in the city.

He emphasised that the Midlands province is rich in lithium deposits, a critical resource driving the third Industrial Revolution in the production of high-tech appliances such as lithium batteries for electric vehicles.

“I wish to congratulate Zera for opening the first electric car charging system in the City of Gweru-Midlands Province yesterday.

“Furthermore, the Midlands province has huge mineral deposits such as lithium that have become the pinnacle of the third Industrial Revolution in the manufacture of high-tech appliances such as lithium batteries now key in the production of electric motor vehicles,” he said.
