ZIMBABWE Rugby Union (ZRU) vice-president Martin Shone says he was impressed by performances of the young Cheetahs side that took part in the Safari Sevens competition in Kenya last Saturday and Sunday.

The Cheetahs finished sixth and picked up some impressive results along the way.

“We took young teams and technically they have done well and this tournament has helped us to see where we are in terms of strength in Africa and we’re among the top teams. We took a relatively inexperienced side to this competition and expected them to put a good show, which they did,” Shone said.

Spain and 2019 Rugby Europe 7s Grand Prix champions Germany headlined the 2021 event alongside Kenya’s national team.

Other teams that took part in the two-day rugby extravaganza included South Africa Sevens Academy, former champions Samurai, Red Wailers, Stallion Sevens of Nigeria, KCB, Kenya Under-20, Shujaa and defending champions Kenya Morans.
