ZIMBABWE has released the names of team managers and coaches for the forthcoming African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Youth Games that will be held in Gaborone, Botswana from December 6-16.

Team Zimbabwe Chef de Mission Charity Nyamayedenga said the names of the athletes will be released to the public after they have been presented to the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry.

Due to limited resources, the country will be sending a hugely depleted squad of 86, down from the recommended 316.

“We have our team managers and coaches ready. The team will be released after we have presented it to the government,” said Nyamayedenga.

She said teams are doing sports specific training before they are brought together to camp as final preparations gather momentum.

“Funds permitting we would have liked to camp for a longer period of time but as it is we are only waiting for funding from treasury as most of our corporate partners seem to be pulling out due to the crunch economic climate,” said the Chef de mission.

Zimbabwe will have six sporting disciplines, athletics, athletics for the visually impaired (VI), tennis, swimming, netball and girls football and from the list released by the head of Team Zimbabwe, Christine Ncube will be the athletics manager while the duo of Benson Samu and Lizzy Ntini are the coaches.

Mapula Ndlovu will manage the VI athletes with Maxwell Madzure and Mildred Baye being the coaches while Linsent Chitiyo will be in charge of the tennis team.

Terence Ohara was appointed swimming coach and World Cup-bound skipper Perpetua Siyachitema will be the netball team manager that will be coached by 2014 gold medal winning gaffer Ropafadzo Mutsauki.

Veteran manager Debra Green will be in charge of the girls football team as manager with Langton Giwa appointed coach.
