The Zi-Ultra Festival hosted by ZiFM in Victoria Falls on Saturday evening was not a cliché, but a rescue mission for the Wild Thing Action Bar – a venue that was fast falling out of favour with locals after the opening of new outlets such as ZimCafe International. The Mix Masters who are underground DJs, brought the house down with a three-DJ line up which did nothing more than play the taste of the crowd.

From DJ Eve who played house music and afro-pop to Phat Styles who pumped revellers with hip hop and Rnb tracks to Taka B who shared the latest Zimdancehall tracks with the Vic Falls community, as well as tourists who had visited, the club was the place to be.

Music producer, Tony G and Jeffery “The M.C” Murimbechi took turns on the mic and led patrons in dance with their well-choreographed animations.

Prior to the Vic Falls show, the ZiFM entourage which comprised of the popular ZiSquad had left  a lasting impression at Club Eden where fellow  ZiFM DJs, T-Bass and P-Styles also brought the house down.

Tony G said he formed Mix Masters after realising that there was a lot of talent which was not being recognised.

“Mix Masters is a group of young up-and-coming DJs who’re really talented but aren’t recognised. Our hope is to get them recognised so that they get to commercialise their talent.

“The Mix Masters who have a slot on ZiFM every Friday between 8PM and 9PM are using radio to widen their scope,” Tony G said.

He said plans were underway to take the Zi-Ultra Festival to other cities, especially after the success of the Vic Falls event.

“We decided to host the festival for fans who requested that they wanted to meet the Mix Masters who they usually hear on radio. We’ll be hosting similar events in other cities as a way of introducing the Mix Masters to the people,” Tony G said.
